Why Support Art in Manitoba?

Art and the process of learning is therapeutic. We know that for many with a multitude of health challenges that their art is the one ‘normal’ thing they will continue to do to loose themselves for as long as they can. On a typical day at the Forum students are chatting and critiquing each others art as they have done for years – some over 40 years! At the same time the new-t0-art students are bravely applying their first strokes of colour under the encouraging guidance of their instructor while the youngest artists take over the building on weekends with enthusiasm and a pure joy of creating. Inclusive to all we’ve developed into a ‘Forum Family’ where the families of students know that their mom, dad, children have a place to go as part of their weekly routine to join friends in pursuing their art passion.

At the Forum Art Centre we pride ourselves in nurturing the love of art through Giving back.

I know in my family ‘art’ is a very important part of our lives. If someone in your family was a student of the Forum Art Centre/Institute at some time during their life you know how much their time as an artist meant to them.

Please help us continue to grow more artists in Manitoba at the Forum Art Centre by your donation ‘in memory of’ your loved one.

Bursary Fund

We've awarded over $20,000 to 200+ teens to date

In 2000 our Board of Directors established our Bursary fund program. We award art classes to deserving teens aged 12 to 16 who have been chosen as worthy recipients through application submitted by their art teacher or principal. The Forum Art is committed to award a minimum of nine bursaries annually (at least 3 for each ten week session of classes) and of course we love to give away more. Financial donations designated as bursary fund donations become restricted income allocated for this purpose with no administration or other expenses attached.

Nikola Bjelajac Scholarship

Nik was one of our founders & he often gave new students who couldn’t afford classes the opportunity to take some classes under his guidance. As he had created the atmosphere for learning and he wanted to do this for others, it happened fairly regularly. On occasion we have been asked if there are any funds for a class for an adult student on a very limited budget. As we are a registered charity we require fees as the basis for our revenue. But we know that giving some classes away for free was something Nik would want.

In 2009 we established the Nikola Bjelajac Scholarship. We will award one session of classes to a deserving recipient for an adult wishing to take art classes. To apply, contact the Executive Director with a simple explanation of the individuals’ situation and they will be registered for one art class for no fee. We will try to find donated art supplies for this person, but cannot guarantee all materials will be available. If there is more than one request per session the Executive Director will meet with the Art Director & several Board members to select one person. If requested a name can be put on a waiting list for the next session.

We Share and Promote Other Charities

We have contributed over $2,800 since 2000!

Once a year we have the opportunity to host a Coffee Break for the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. This is held the first week of our art classes in September & is open to the public. All of our coffee/tea proceeds for the week along with individual contributions are donated to the Alzheimer Society. We do this as it is dear to our hearts as 8 of our former students had lived the ends of their lives with Alzheimer’s.

Your Donations Count

Charitable Giving
We realize that so many registered charities are vying for your financial contributions more than ever but we believe that art and culture is important to the lives of so many. Since 1964 we have provided a creative, comfortable atmosphere for the visual arts in Manitoba. Regardless of age, culture, background and health abilities we blend into one common community art centre. The Forum Art depends on the generous support of individuals & businesses to help sustain our growing array of educational art programming and events. We will issue a receipt for tax purposes for any donations over 10.00 as requested. All funds received without specific designation will be allocated as needed.

Material Donations
We have been very fortunate in receiving such items as finished art in various mediums from owners, alumni or estates. Everything has helped us in stretching our operating dollar a little bit farther and if we can’t find a use for something we can usually find a good home for it or we will donate it to another art or not for profit organization.
Art related items we can use may include: stretchers and canvas for building the stretched canvas to paint on; art frames; art supplies including everything from paper, paint, brushes, glazes, hand tools, craft supplies to use in the children’s art, unusual items for still life drawing, art books and magazines. Other items may include: cleaning supplies or social supplies such as coffee.
