This course provides students the opportunity to explore a diverse set of drawing and painting skills. Students are encouraged to develop their observational and drawing abilities, which are crucial preparations for painting.

Shimonek covers a range of topics, including still life studies, working with colour, understanding colour theory, shading techniques, spatial representation, the use of light, composition principles, and the unique challenges and techniques associated with various paints like watercolour and acrylics.

By engaging in these varied activities, students expand their artistic skills and gain experience with different mediums.

Suggested Material List:

● Sketchbook (optional) many projects will be done on bristol
● Bristol paper pad, either 9×12, 11×14
● Drawing Pencils
● Kneaded Eraser
● Pencil Sharpener
● Ruler
● Watercolour, Acrylic or Water-soluble Oil Paint Set
● Paint Brushes (round various round sizes are multipurpose)
● Watercolour arches, or watercolour paper pad (hot pressed or smooth)
● Canvas Pad or 1-3 canvas or canvas boards
● Masking tape
● Oil pastel, colour pencil
● (optional: drawing gum or masking fluid)
